Here's how to submit public comments for LHRC (Local Human Rights Committee) and SHRC (State Human Rights Committee) meetings in 2026:
General Process (Applies to Both LHRC & SHRC)
Public comments are welcomed during the designated public comment period on the meeting agenda (usually early in the meeting).
You do not need to attend the meeting to submit a comment — written comments are accepted and will be added to the official record/minutes.
Deadline: Submit your comment by 5:00 PM on the day before the meeting (some older notices said noon — the 2026 schedule uses 5 PM).
How to Submit
Email your comment to the assigned Human Rights Advocate for that specific LHRC or to the State Human Rights Director for SHRC.
Clearly state:
Which committee/meeting the comment is for (e.g., “Staunton Area LHRC – April 2, 2026” or “SHRC – March 5, 2026”)
Your name (optional if you wish to remain anonymous, but named comments are preferred)
